What's this? Something kind of canon?

On the left is a young, not-quite-Queen-yet Serenity as Sailor Moon, and her daughter Usagi, the future Sailor Moon.

I've seen quite a few "generation charts" in my DA feed lately, which got me to wondering - how did Usagi, who has blonde hair and blue eyes, and Mamoru, who has black hair and blue eyes, produce an offspring with pink hair and red eyes?

My answer is that the "pink hair gene" comes from Queen Serenity, and the "red eye gene" must come from Usagi's father or Mamoru's parents.

In the canon though Queen Serenity did not have pink hair but rather white hair.

naoko did do a lot of artbooks when she made usagis mom whit pink hair ^-^ So that could explain chibiusas hair .

Thanks! The background is actually a screencap from the Season 1 opening. I did edit it considerably, and probably should have put the info in the credits but I forgot.

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone! It's cool reading all your theories. I know in the original design for Sailor Moon, she had pink hair, which also influenced my choice for Serenity's hair color.

Cute picture! ^^

Though I read in Naoko Takeuchi's original designs for Sailor Moon, she had pink hair (which you can find after some searching- it looks so odd compared to the one we all know). XD After a lot of editing, she made her blond, and when she designed Chibi-Usa, she used some of her old designs.

Hmm, I remember reading somewhere that Chibiusa has pink hair because she was born under a "special" moon or during a "special" time of the moon. However, I didn't read anything about her red eyes, but then again, it's anime XD
